Solicitors CPD Compliance
Law Friends Society delivers training that fits the SRA’s continuing competence model, which requires solicitors to identify learning needs, undertake relevant training, and reflect on their competence.
Â
How CPD Works Under the SRA Regulatory Framework
Since 2016, the SRA no longer requires solicitors to complete a fixed number of CPD hours. Instead, the SRA Continuing Competence regime applies. Under this system, solicitors must reflect on their practice, identify learning needs, plan and undertake training that meets those needs, record the training they complete, and make an annual declaration that they have maintained their competence.
Â
Why Watching Random Free Webinars Does Not Make You CPD Compliant
Watching random free webinars does not make you CPD compliant with the SRA because the SRA’s Continuing Competence regime requires solicitors to undertake training that specifically addresses their individual learning needs and competence gaps.
Simply attending webinars without considering their relevance to your practice area or current professional requirements may fail to meet this obligation. The SRA expects solicitors to reflect on their practice, identify areas for improvement, and select learning activities that genuinely enhance their competence, rather than participating in generic sessions that may not be applicable.
Compliance is not just about the number of hours spent learning. It is also about the quality, relevance, and suitability of the training. CPD activities should form part of a structured learning plan, be properly recorded, and support the solicitor’s annual declaration that they have maintained their competence.
Â
Why Law Friends Society’s CPD Counts as SRA Compliant
Law Friends Society’s training aligns with the SRA’s requirements for continuing competence by providing structured legal training that helps solicitors maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
Our seminars, webinars, conferences, legal updates, and online courses allow solicitors to choose training relevant to their practice areas and learning needs. This supports reflective learning and helps solicitors demonstrate that their training has been selected for a clear professional purpose.
The SRA allows a wide range of learning formats, including seminars, webinars, workshops, conferences, and online courses, provided the learning helps improve competence. Law Friends Society’s CPD can therefore be incorporated into a solicitor’s training record and annual SRA declaration where the training is relevant to their practice.
