May 2018 London Immigration Conference

10 May 2018

To start us off for the day, we had outstanding immigration barristers representing the prestigious Doughty Street Chambers. This included Phil Haywood – who boasts expertise in complex deportation appeals – providing an essential “Deportation” update. This was followed by “Human Trafficking, Article 8 and The Hostile Environment” from Krishnendu Tublu Mukherjee, who worked on Regina (Razgar) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2004] 3 WLR 58, the leading case on Article 8 and expulsion.

After a coffee break, we moved onto an informative update from One Pump Court’s fantastic Priya Solanki, who presented an update on “Bail and Detention.”  Priya is currently ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as a leading junior, and continues to do good work for us here at Law Friends.

After lunch, we moved onto presentations from Lamb Building. We began the afternoon session with a well-delivered update from Law Friends favourite Raphael Jesurum, who presented on “Disclosure” (as always, in an incredibly engaging manner). Keelin McCarthy, followed with an essential update on “Unlawful Detention,” representing one of her areas of strong expertise.

And finally, after one last refreshment break, we closed the day with a brilliant update from Alison Harvey from No 5 Chambers about “Hostile Environment.” Alison is a well known expert in this area, having published reputable Immigration Law literature.
