We were excited to deliver this dynamic and interactive full-day conference for lawyers practising in Social Housing Law.

With a full spread of the latest must-know legal updates and skills, the event featured a collection of highly useful presentations from leading London lawyers, each with extensive hands-on experience in Social Housing cases and recognised as top practitioners in the field.

The conference took place on Day Two of our London CPD Festival Week at the Mary Ward Conference Centre, where Law Friends delivered a full week of unique, energetic, and practice-focused training across multiple areas of law.

This in-depth CPD event covered the frontline of housing, homelessness, and public law practice, with a tightly focused agenda featuring experts from One Pump Court, 42BR, Garden Court Chambers, and Law Friends Society. Across the day, delegates received practical updates on possession defence, homelessness litigation, the Renters Reform Bill, Traveller site law, family and housing crossover issues, and securing effective remedies for unsuitable accommodation. With seven high-level speakers across five chambers and institutions, the conference was built for legal professionals seeking to stay sharp, strategic, and fully compliant in 2025.

From Anonymity to Reform: A Full-Spectrum Housing Update

  • Eleri Griffiths (One Pump Court) opened the day with a session on anonymity in homelessness litigation, exploring the how, when, and why of protecting identities in vulnerable-client cases.

  • Liam Evans (One Pump Court) followed with Family Law for Housing Lawyers, supporting practitioners to navigate overlapping disputes and safeguarding concerns.

  • Alex Adamou (42BR) delivered a powerful seminar on public law defences in housing possession proceedings, essential when challenging unfair evictions or procedural injustice.

  • After lunch, Dr Rhiannon Craft (Law Friends Society) presented the latest updates on Gypsy and Traveller law, focusing on injunctions, consultation duties, and meanwhile site rights.

  • Tim Baldwin (Garden Court Chambers) then delivered a practical session on challenging unsuitable homelessness accommodation and securing meaningful remedies through litigation.

  • Ricky Blennerhasset (Garden Court Chambers) rounded out the day with a forward-facing update on the Renters Reform Bill and its implications for housing law practice.

The day was introduced and closed by Steve Kennedy, Solicitor and Founder of Law Friends Society, who brought decades of experience championing frontline legal education across the UK.

Strategic, Practical, and Unmissable for 2025 Housing Practitioners

This was not checkbox CPD. It was an essential legal briefing for professionals working on the frontlines of housing crisis management, statutory homelessness, tenant defence, and intersectional family law cases. Delivered by barristers litigating these issues daily, the conference ensured delegates left equipped to defend clients and challenge injustice with confidence.
